Straddling Two Worlds

The past few days have been filled with new music, which makes me pretty happy. My creativity sometimes takes me to a dreamworld far away...then I remember that evil men still roam this earth, and I snap out of my trance.

God bless those who keep us safe from the things that go bump in the night.

We are...

abandoned
Originally uploaded by Ray Wise
The world changes, but it is we who stay the same...
We are the transient, but we are in the middle of the eye of the storm
watching vectors intercept and flow away from us.
We are a fixed point, journeying to die as we mature and become evermore full of life.

We are the sons of Adam, the daughters of Eve,
Always wanting the thing we cannot have,
Crying Abba and Allah in the desert
Louder than the screams of jets, and missiles,
nor the roar of gunfire, could ever drown out.
We are hungry for apples and thirsty for water.
We are the triplet sons of Abraham.

We are the sons of God,
Destined for more than flesh and blood,
Birthed by blood and water,
Through wine and bread -
The afterthought of a meal and a death sentence;
the gift from a star and a trough.

We are these nightwalkers and daytrippers,
with tickets to ride on 35's and 405's,
in man created birds and steeds we ride,
The world is smaller still with my passport and y gateway at my finger tips

*I haven't posted my own poetry in a while. It's been something I've been keeping to myself, for in the past it's had some unwanted repercussions, but I thought this one was particularly interesting and fit enough to share. I did not take the photo accompanied with it, nor do I know Ray Wise (the gentleman who composed this picture), but I thought it provided interesting adjacent imagery.

Experimenting with a work space

I've started to write new music. I started as of November 1st. I was lost and tired of it for a while, so over the summer I took a break from anything resembling music performance or composition. I hated it.

The muse and I are on speaking terms again...it's been a while, and it's starting to feel good again. It's starting to click again. I'm not sure what will happen, nor do I particularly care this time. I just want to make music I'm proud of that both I and others can enjoy.

I hope you feel the same way.

Dream on

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out otheir dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
-T.E. Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia)

"The Wild Swans at Coole"

(Photo Courtesy of Ottawa Citizen - World of Birds)

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty swans.

The nineteenth autumn has come upon me
Since I first made my count;
I saw, before I had well finished,
All suddenly mount
And scatter wheeling in great broken rings
Upon their clamorous wings.

I have looked upon those brilliant creatures,
And now my heart is sore.
All’s changed since I, hearing at twilight,
The first time on this shore,
The bell-beat of their wings above my head,
Trod with a lighter tread.

Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.

But now they drift on the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lake’s edge or pool
Delight men’s eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?

Pardon the mess

Right now, since I am in the process of reformatting everything, please excuse the sloppiness of this page.

You're too kind.

Arabic

I've been working on this one for a few months. I like the way Rosetta Stone does things, but sometimes I wish I were just in an Arabic speaking country to learn the language by immersion.

Google books is quite useful, even if you can only get the preview of certain things, like the book below, for example.
